Fingal County Council and Change Clothes launch free community clothes swap kits

Dublin People 09 Jun 2025

A brand-new initiative is launching in Fingal to help local communities cut waste, build connection, and have some fun all through the power of swapping.

Fingal County Council’s Environmental Awareness section has teamed up with Change Clothes, a not-for-profit focused on sustainable fashion and textile reuse, to offer free Clothes Swap Kits to community groups, schools, and local organisations across the Fingal area. The kits, launching on June 9th, are designed to make it easy for anyone to host their own clothing swap whether it’s a fundraiser, a climate action event, or just a good excuse to bring people together.

Each Swap Kit includes clothing rails, hangers, tokens, signage, and even a big mirror and display mannequin, everything needed to run a successful event.

“Clothes swaps are one of the most joyful, affordable ways to tackle textile waste,” said Mary Fleming, Founder of Change Clothes. “This partnership makes it possible for communities in Fingal to take action in a hands-on, creative way, no sewing skills required! We’re so excited to see what people do with these kits.”

The kits are free to borrow for groups based in the Fingal County Council area, and include support from the Change Clothes team to help organisers get started. The project is part of the Council’s commitment to sustainability and community-led climate action.

“We’re thrilled to support this initiative,” said Jennifer Muscheidt, Environmental Awareness Officer at Fingal County Council. “It’s a simple, accessible way for people to rethink their relationship with clothing and connect with others in their community. We hope to see swap events popping up across the county in the months ahead.”

Whether you’re planning a school event, a fundraiser, or a local gathering, hosting a clothes swap is now easier than ever.
