The 32nd annual Light Up A Life Remembrance Ceremony is taking place at Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services (OLH&CS) in Harold’s Cross yesterday afternoon, with some 6,000 people in attendance.

With Rock ‘n’ Roll Kids stars, Paul Harrington and Charlie McGettigan as guests of honour, the audience joined in some musical classics and moments of remembrance, culminating in the lighting of the Light Up A Life Christmas Tree.

Today FM’s Ian Dempsey was MC, as local choirs and performers took to the stage.

Charlie and Paul also performed their new single, ‘We’ll Be Missing You This Christmas’, the first original recording from the duo in 30 years, since their Eurovision win in 1994.

Proceeds raised from the single will go to OLH&CS.

As well as being a memorable event for the OLH&CS community, Light Up A Life is a very important fundraiser for the organisation, helping to support services across Harold’s Cross, Blackrock and Wicklow, onsite and throughout the community, which require a minimum of €5.5 million fundraising annually.

As Ireland’s largest hospice, OLH&CS has a catchment area of over one million people.

Mary Flanagan, Chief Executive Officer of Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services said:“Light Up A Life of course would not be possible without the generosity of our local community and businesses, who have attended the Remembrance Ceremony or very generously donated.

“We are immensely grateful to Paul and Charlie, and all the performers who took time out of their busy schedules to join us and the Defence Forces, Order of Malta and volunteers who gave their time, the continued success of Light Up A Life is testament to the important and special place it holds in people’s hearts”, she added.

Light Up A Life sponsored lights in honour of loved ones are displayed online at www.lightupalife.ie, where you can also purchase Paul and Charlie’s new single, festive decorations, cards and pins. Businesses can also support Light Up A Life by becoming a Leading Light for Hospice.
