Aslan set to release brand new single ‘Hear Your Call’  

Aslan are set to release their first single ‘Hear Your Call’ with singer Lee Tomkins on March 7. 

It will be the first offering from the band since Lee came on board following the sad passing of former frontman Christy Dignam in June 2023. 

The band have had an emotional couple of years but are excited about the next chapter in the Aslan journey. 

The four piece, who are currently working on a new album, said ‘Hear your Call’ will give fans a taste of what’s to come. 

Singer Lee, who became Aslan’s new singer in February 2024, said he’s excited about the new single and said it feels great to be able to add to an already great catalogue of music from the legendary band. 

He said: “I showed the idea of the song to the lads and they really liked it so the four of us worked on it and made it what it is today. 

“It’s a song about going through hard times and having self-doubt but finding strength in numbers. 

“The recording process was very enjoyable and very quick.

“It feels great to be able to add to an already amazing catalogue of music from the band and to be also able to put my own stamp on a song.” 

Lee added: “I hope people can listen and relate to the song and make it their own.” 

Guitarist Billy McGuinness said it was important that they all took part in the song-writing process. 

He said: “It was important that for our first recording with Lee that it happened somewhere where we all felt comfortable so we went to Jealoustown Studios where we have recorded a lot in the past. 

“After all we have been through, dealing with our own grief in our own way, it feels amazing that something positive is happening, releasing our first single on our new journey. 

“We are working on a new album and ‘Hear Your Call’ for me is a perfect introduction to Lee’s amazing voice. 

“It’s definitely very exciting for us and we can’t wait for everyone to hear it. We love the song so much in fact that we are releasing an EP with four different mixes of it.” 

While drummer Alan Downey said despite it feeling strange not having Christy in the studio with them, he is excited about the new journey the band are set to embark on, he added:  “We started to get into writing new songs last year and we were all throwing ideas around. 

“Then one day Lee came in with an idea and we decided to start working on it. 

“The song is about people struggling with everyday life, it’s a message to reach out to friends and family for help when you need it. 

“It did feel strange recording the song without Christy but we all stuck together and as always we feel he is with us anyway. 

“It’s nice to have Lee on board, for Aslan to continue on to its next chapter.” 

And Joe Jewell, who has played lead guitar with the band since it first formed in 1982, said it “feels very exciting and lays the foundation for better things to come.” 

He concluded: “For me it’s about offering a helping hand to anyone going through a hard time in their life.” 

‘Hear Your Call’ will be available on all music platforms on March 7.
