Dublin director Cronin to make new Mummy movie
Mike Finnerty 02 Jan 2025Dublin’s resident horror maestro Lee Cronin will direct a new Mummy film.
The Skerries man, who directed the most recent entry in the long-running Evil Dead franchise, has been tapped to direct a Mummy film.
Evil Dead Rise made nearly $150 million worldwide upon release in 2023 and now Cronon will tackle another iconic horror franchise.
Teasing the film, Cronin said “this will be unlike any Mummy movie you ever laid eyeballs on before.”
“I’m digging deep into the earth to raise something very ancient and very frightening,” he said.
Cronin first came to prominence with the 2019 film The Hole In The Ground, which caught the attention of Evil Dead and Spider-Man icon Sam Raimi and led to Cronin’s path taking him to Hollywood.
The Mummy film will be produced by Atomic Monster, production company of Aussie director James Wan (Saw, the Aquaman films, Malignant) New Line Cinema (known as The House That Freddy Built as a result of the Nightmare On Elm Street films launching the studio into the mainstream) and Cronin’s own production company Doppelgangers.
James Wan and fellow horror titan Jason Blum will produce the film, dated for April 17th,2026
With that horror pedigree behind it, fans can expect to see Cronin’s take on the Mummy franchise next year – here’s hoping it’s better than the 2017 one with Tom Cruise.
