Dublin artists invited to help bring Ballymun’s brilliance to life

Dublin People 26 Sep 2024

Artists and creatives from across Dublin are being invited to develop project ideas to explore the intersections of climate change, social justice, and community engagement.

The call out is part of the Ballymun is Brilliant project, a partnership between three organisations based in Ballymun: Global Action Plan, Axis Ballymun and the Rediscovery Centre.

The three organisations promote community-led change and have come together in the Ballymun Is Brilliant project. They will be working with individuals and local organisations in Ballymun to unlock the creativity of our community to develop new ideas to tackle climate change.

Both individuals and collectives are invited to apply – including visual artists, writers, musicians, dancers and others – to conceptualise and deliver a creative project that can help engage the people of Ballymun in climate action.

“This is an exciting opportunity for creatives to make a real impact through their work.” said Niamh Ní Iceadha, the Ballymun Is Brilliant project manager.

“We are looking for innovative ideas that will help to spark meaningful conversations in the community, and generate ideas for a more sustainable future for Ballymun. We are inviting creative people to share their suggestions on how to use art to engage with local communities and tackle urgent environmental issues,” explained Ms. Ní Iceadha.

Ballymun Is Brilliant celebrates the creativity, resilience and brilliance of the Ballymun community. The project is funded by Creative Ireland, through the Government’s Creative Climate Action Fund.

“Ballymun has a rich history of creativity and activism. Our community is full of artists, writers, painters, photographers, musicians and community groups in the space of climate and biodiversity. Art is such a powerful format to tell the story of Ballymun’s past, present and future,” said Nadia Mohamed, who is the Community Engagement Coordinator of the Ballymun Is Brilliant project.

“We’re challenging artists to engage with the Ballymun people and help generate ideas for building a more sustainable community for all. Art is a really powerful way to work with our community, to gently tell our stories and promote change,” concluded Ms. Mohamed.

Details on how to apply for funding under this call-out can be found at: https://ballymunisbrilliant.ie/creative/creative-call-out-2024/

The deadline for submissions is 13th October (Midnight).
