Charlemont Square to feature works by Bansky, Warhol, Dali and Hirst

Dublin is set to feature works by artistic icons as one of Ireland’s largest art and sculpture exhibition returns for a second year. 

Showcasing over 250 artworks by the biggest names in international and Irish art, Gormleys at Charlemont Square runs from September 26 to October 17.

Works by Banksy, Tracey Emin, Damien Hirst, Andy Warhol, Salvador Dali, Bridget Riley and Julian Opie will be on show, alongside leading and emerging Irish artists.

Last year, over 15,000 people attended the exhibition, which is free and open to the public.

The highlight of the event will be features by renowned artists Banksy, Gordon Harris and living sculpture Daniel Lismore.

Banksy, one of the world’s most intriguing artists, recently gained international attention as nine animal-themed murals by the street artist appeared across London in as many days.

Banksy’s most sought after works, ‘Girl with Balloon,’ valued at €115,000, will feature at the event.

The political activist’s real name remains undisclosed and is the subject of intense speculation.

Active since the 1990s, his satirical street art and works of political and social commentary have appeared on streets, walls, and bridges throughout the world.

Living sculpture Daniel Lismore is a fabric sculptor, author, and human rights and environmental activist.

Described by Vogue Magazine as England’s Most Eccentric Dresser, he is best known for his statement fashion sculptures which he models in every-day life as a living work of art.

Lismore hosted his first two exhibitions, featuring self-portraits, in Tate Modern and Tate Britain, and was Circuit Ambassador for the Tate Museums, encouraging a new generation to engage with the art world.

More recently, his site-specific installation Studio Visit has brought his studio on tour around the globe, and his fabric sculpture exhibition, Be Yourself, Everyone Else is Already Taken, has to date attracted more than 100,000 guests from all over the world.

Having only one year ago turned his eye to painting, Lismore will bring his portraits to Charlemont Square as part of his first ever gallery exhibition, as well as his first show in Ireland.

And Gordon Harris, one of Ireland’s most highly regarded figurative artists, will unveil a new collection of six monumental paintings.

Recognised for his highly refined, meticulously detailed and translucently layered paintings, Harris has exhibited at the National Gallery of Ireland and the RHA.

“This new collection includes portraits of my daughters, which acts as a social commentary on fatherhood as well as current geopolitical issues,” said Harris.

“Soul Child and Peace take a direct challenging approach and confront political instability with innocence taking on aggression.

“The message behind the Camouflage series is that beauty gives a person power and camouflage.

“The Golden Empress painting is of my daughter, and an empress does not concern herself with the antics of fools – the message to her is be strong, be fearless, be beautiful.”

The exhibition takes place over 15,000 sq ft in the recently developed Charlemont Square in Dublin 2.

Developed by McGarrell Reilly, Charlemont Square is a new landmark development, featuring state-of-the-art office, retail, dining and living quarters.

Gormleys at Charlemont Square will open from 11am-6pm Tuesday to Saturday and 12pm-5pm Sunday from September 26 to October 17. The exhibition will be closed on Mondays. Visit gormleys.ie for further details.
