The Dublin Story Slam presents “Summer in the City”

Padraig Conlon 25 Jun 2024

The Dublin Story Slam has announced a trio of open mic competitive storytelling nights taking place across Dublin City this July with stories inspired by Summer in the City.

The evening – hosted by the wonderful Comedian Sharon Mannion and Colm O’Regan will travel around the City with a competitive open mic storytelling night hosted in the Pavilion Theatre in Dun Laoghaire, the Civic Theatre in Tallaght and finishing with a show in the Sugar Club in the City Centre.

At each show members of the audience will be asked to share their own personal true stories inspired by a memorable Summer spent in an unforgettable city.

From early childhood adventures under the hot sun, to complete wash outs and being stuck indoors.

Summer romances, flings and dates to forging friendships at Summer camps and crazy concerts.

Seasonal jobs that you’ll never do again to a summer spent doing nothing and loving every second.

Funny, sad, serious or silly, storytellers can sign up in advance to share their stories by emailing the first line of their story to [email protected] as well as signing up on the night.

8 storytellers will be selected at random and then invited to take to the stage and share a 4-7 minute story told without notes and compete for the title of Story Slam Champion.

Julien Clancy, Founder and producer of the Dublin Story Slam said:

“We’ve been quietly helping all kinds of Dubliners share their massive stories for the last 7 years.

“In that time, we’ve come to understand just how rich Dublin is as a city through the people who call it home.

“Summer in the City is a chance for Dubliners to celebrate and remember their Summer memories, stories, and personal experiences with one of the nicest and most supportive audiences in Dublin”

The night is aimed at anyone who has a story worth sharing but zero experience is needed to take part.

According to host Sharon Mannion: “You really don’t need to be experienced in public speaking or even to have told a story publicly before to get up onstage at The Dublin Story Slam.

“In fact some of our favorite storytellers were people who’ve never told a story before.”

The Dublin Story Slam will be hosting a series of free storytelling workshops both online and onsite in early July.
