Two talented artists from Dublin, Michael Hade, and Rachel Coen, are set to showcase their remarkable artwork on a national level as part of the Connecting Artists 2024 programme.
Michael Hade, from Rathfarnham, and Rachel Coen, from Palmerstown, are among the ten artists selected from across Ireland to participate in this 10-week online programme, culminating in an exhibition at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) in Dublin.
The exhibition will be held from Wednesday, July 3 to Sunday, July 7.
The Connecting Artists programme, designed by Miriam Spollen, founder of Connections Arts Centre, aims to empower visual artists with intellectual disabilities by providing a platform for them to develop their creative practice and gain professional recognition.

Michael’s journey with art began from an early age, driven by his passion and creative spirit.
Drawing inspiration from everyday scenes, outdoor landscapes, and artworks that evoke joy, Michael’s art celebrates the magic found in ordinary moments.
He likes drawing shapes, and lines, and using his favourite colour, red, to infuse his pieces with brightness and positivity.
His art showcases a unique blend of styles, reflecting elements of Post-Impressionism intertwined with playful Pop Art influences.
Michael preferred mediums include oil pastels, watercolours, and chalks.
Michael shares, “I am incredibly proud to be part of the Connecting Artists 2024 programme.
“It’s an exciting opportunity to exhibit my art at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin.

“I hope that my artwork can inspire others and bring happiness to those who view it.”

Rachel has enjoyed art for many years, finding it to be a relaxing and fulfilling activity.

Drawing inspiration from nature, Rachel’s paintings are characterised by their modern, vibrant style and the use of strong colours.
While her favourite medium has traditionally been acrylics, the Connecting Artists programme has introduced her to a newfound appreciation for watercolours.
Reflecting on her participation, Rachel shared, I am delighted to be part of the Connecting Artists Programme.
“It’s exciting to exhibit my latest artwork alongside other talented artists in the programme at the Royal College of Surgeons.
“This opportunity has been incredible.”

Rachel has previously exhibited her work in several Incognito art exhibitions.

Miriam Spollen, founder of Connections Arts Centre, highlighted the ongoing success and impact of the programme, stating, “As we enter the third year of the Connecting Artists programme, the dedication of our ten wonderful mentors and the collaboration with the RCSI Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Unit remain crucial.

“We are thrilled to see the 2024 participants’ fantastic artwork exhibited at a national level.

“The consistent support from the public, both business and community, has been incredible and continues to inspire us.”
