Stoneybatter Pride of Place returns for 8th year

Stoneybatter Pride of Place will be held from Friday 21st – Sunday 23rd June. 

This year, it’s expected that 130 events will take place across the three-day festival from music, entertainment, food and drink, to sustainability, culture and heritage, as the village in the heart of Dublin 7 comes together once again to celebrate all it has to offer. 

This year’s festivities will see team-ups local brewers, Trouble Brewing, to develop the aptly named ‘Deoch na gCloch’(derived from the Irish name for Stoneybatter, ‘Bóthar na gCloch’).

Available in cans and on draught from establishments around the Village from Thursday 20th June, the beer is a juicy summer pale ale and comes in at 4.5%.

Local film-maker Tracy Cummins has put her heart and soul into producing, directing and starring in her own B-Movie horror classic – Attack of the Killer Hand DryerThe movie will be screened in the Law Society of Ireland on Saturday 22 June at 2pm.

A dedicated sustainability hub will be located in the Scout Hall where organic gardening classes, clothes swaps, book swaps and a repair cafe will be available all day Saturday 22 June.

Friday 21st June 

The festival launch will take place from 6.00pm  at the Prussia St Community Centre, MC’ed by loca resident Conor Pope followed by performances from local punk rockers The Speakers. 

Former Dublin 7 resident and one of the most well-known hosts in Ireland, the beloved Pauline McGlynn (AKA Mrs Doyle) will also be on hand to welcome people in with a cup of tea and a chat….

For those seeking a different start to the Festival weekend, local amateur birdwatcher Derek O’Reilly will give guests an insight into ‘Birds of the Northside’ in the Carmichael House on Brunswick St from 6.30pm. 

Launch night will then continue with Clarke’s City Arms’ ‘Stoneybanter’, Kavanagh’s Music Night, L Mulligan Grocer’s ‘Festa’ and lots of other antics in and around the area.   

Saturday 22nd June 

Visit the local scouts in their teepee at Billy Edwards’ Park, enjoy an afternoon of music at the Thor Place Picnic or a Sean Nós dancing workshop in Hynes’ Bar, Prussia St. 

Other events taking place on the day include walking tours of St Brendan’s Hospital, Grangegorman; Stoneybatter; and, Arbour Hill cemetery, a quiz dedicated to crisp trivia, sports events including GAA, boxing and circuits, hosted in TU Dublin, an appearance from Giggles, an Irish-speaking clown with a talent for balloon animals as well as yoga and wellness events at various locations  

Sunday 23rd June 

Stoneybatter and Manor Street will be closed to traffic from 12 noon to 6pm to for stalls, music, and an action-packed fun day with a focus on families, including: 

  • The IUNVA pipers marching on Manor St, leading the dog paw-rade 
  • Picklepalooza, the highlight of the 2023 Main Stage returns – the competition (like the pickles) will be fierce! 
  • The return of the hugely popular best dressed dog contest Woofstock 
  • Children’s performer Rainbow Phil 
  • Céilí Mór with music from Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann 
  • The Push Up Challenge (sponsored by the Press Up Group)
  • Music, food, giveaways, and much, much more! 

The Festival concludes on Sunday night with a concert of music, song and dance for the senior citizens of the Stoneybatter area and after-parties in the local pubs.
