A Dublin girl has been announced as the winner of the ‘Design-A-Cover’ competition with The O’Brien Press.

Earlier this year, Children’s Books Ireland teamed up with The O’Brien Press to launch the national ‘Design-A-Cover’ competition.

This is an annual opportunity for one lucky young person to have their artwork featured on the cover of a professionally published book.

A huge volume of submissions came from Ireland’s talented young artists, re-imagining the cover of Judi Curtin’s novel Time After Time, the first instalment in the author’s popular series of the same name.

The winner of the ‘Design-A-Cover’ competition is Eloise Corrigan from Dublin.

Eloise will have her winning design used on the new edition of Time After Time published in Autumn 2024.

As well as the winning title, Eloise has also won a set of books for her class in The Teresian School and a special selection of The O’Brien Press books.

Competition winner Eloise said: “I’m over the moon about winning this competition.

“I have always loved reading and drawing, so getting the chance to combine them was a really fun experience.

“Thank you to everyone at The O’Brien Press for giving me the opportunity to illustrate the cover of Judi’s fabulous book!”

With such a high quality of entries from young people all over the island, five runners-up were also selected to have their artwork featured in the upcoming book and they will receive a selection of fantastic titles from The O’Brien Press.

Ivan O’Brien, Managing Director, The O’Brien Press, said: “The ‘Design A Cover’ competition always sparks the imaginations of children throughout the country.

“Time after Time has so many great elements that we knew that the covers would be something special: we were not disappointed!

“Well done to all the participants, and to the runners up, but in particular to our winner Eloise!”

Elaina Ryan, CEO of Children’s Books Ireland, said:

“Every year we are blown away by the talent of the young artists who enter the ‘Design-A-Cover’ competition.

“It’s such an exciting opportunity for the winner to have their design on shop shelves all over Ireland – and hopefully, in a few years’ time, it might encourage them to work towards creating their own book.

“It’s clear that the future of illustration in Ireland is in safe hands.”
