Gentlemen, you can’t fight in here, this is the Bord Gais Energy Theatre!

Stanley Kubrick’s legendary 1964 Cold War comedy Dr. Strangelove is being adapted for the stage, and the adaptation, penned by Armando Iannucci of Veep and The Thick Of It fame, will be playing in Dublin next February.

The adaptation will be directed by Sean Foley, an award-winning and established theatre director who has won Olivier awards for his work in the British theatre scene.

Coogan will be playing multiple roles in the stage version much like Peter Sellers did in the 1964 classic.

The play will debut on October 8th in London’s Noel Coward Theatre before making its way over to Dublin next February.

The 1964 film is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, and it’s portrayal of folly in the face of nuclear war has worked its way back around to being timely again.

Kubrick’s film was nominated for 4 Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director, and is widely regarded as one of Kubrick’s finest.

The combination of Steve Coogan and Armando Iannucci is sure to get comedy fans salivating, with the pair working together on a variety of projects.

Their most well-known collaboration is Coogan’s Alan Partridge character, with Coogan playing the neurotic Norwich radio DJ in a number of programs and stage shows.

Coogan has achieved success outside of his Partridge persona, most notably picking up an Oscar nominations in 2014 for his screenwriting and production work on Philomena.

Iannucci has gone on to massive success, with his political satire Veep racking up a mountain of Emmy wins during a 7-year run on HBO.

Iannucci is also well-known for creating the political satire The Thick Of It, making Iannucci an ideal pick to adapt one of the great dark comedies.

Their version of Dr. Strangelove will play in Dublin from February 5th until February 22nd next year, with tickets going on sale on Friday, March 8th.
