Unveiling Spectrum: A Late-night fusion of art and music at Rua Red Gallery, Tallaght
Padraig Conlon 08 Nov 2023A groundbreaking cultural revolution is about to unfold at Rua Red Gallery, in Tallaght, with the debut of Spectrum, a captivating late-night event series that will redefine the boundaries of art, music, and nightlife, presented by Rua Red in collaboration with SoFFt Productions and NOISE Music.
This unique initiative is proudly supported by The Arts Council of Ireland’s Late Night Events Pilot Programme, and is one of just 14 pilot projects funded across the country.
This first-of-its-kind late-night series at Rua Red Gallery will showcase the vibrant spectrum of electronic music and visual arts in Ireland as an all-new component of its existing visual arts programme.
The series will comprise of three events, the first taking place on Saturday, 18th November, with two subsequent events in March and May 2024.
Each late-night event will feature a music lineup programmed by some of Ireland’s leading electronic music collectives and nightlife curators alongside newly commissioned work by exciting visual artists.
Spectrum will explore the boundaries of the gallery space, offering a unique experience over three nights between November and May, inviting attendees to reimagine the possibilities of late-night entertainment.
From 10pm to 3am, Rua Red Gallery will come alive with an electrifying program, unveiling some of Ireland’s finest homegrown selectors, producers, and performers.
Spectrum is set to provide an inclusive space to engage with art, community, and the dance floor, offering an experience like no other.
The inaugural Spectrum event on November 18th will be curated by the remarkable GASH Collective and feature newly commissioned work by the incredibly talented visual artist Aisling Phelan.
GASH Collective is an Irish collective and label dedicated to supporting female, trans, queer, non-binary, and underrepresented individuals in music production and DJing.
Through a combination of collaborations, safe space initiatives, curated events, mix series, and educational workshops, GASH aims to shine a spotlight on marginalized talents across Ireland’s music landscape.
Visual Artist Aisling Phelan, a multidisciplinary artist known for her work in 3D animation, photography, video, virtual reality, and live interactive technologies, will debut her exciting new creations.
Phelan’s work explores the intersection of art and technology, focusing on the digital self and its impact on our understanding of the physical self.
Her art questions the effects of digital reconstruction on the human form and raises awareness about the influence of digital infrastructure on society and mental well-being.
Maoliosa Boyle, Creative Director at Rua Red, says: “Opening up our space and gallery to new audiences and creating new levels of accessibility is what we want at Rua Red; collaboration is key to this.
“By creating late night events that combine visual art, music, sound, dance and installation we aim to reach new audiences and a new level of engagement and access.
“The combined energy and skills between SoFFt Productions, Rua Red, NOISE Music and commissioned visual artists will bring three spectacular, late night, live events to the county in the form of ‘Spectrum’ taking place within the gallery space at Rua Red over the next seven months. We are really excited at the possibilities this partnership will bring.”

Aisling Phelan, Visual Artist, adds: “I’m absolutely delighted to be one of the commissioned visual artists for Rua Red’s ‘Spectrum’ events. Having volunteered for them back in 2018 and knowing how wonderfully dedicated their team is, it’s very exciting for me to get the opportunity to work with them in this new context. Alongside SoFFt Productions and NOISE Music, we’ll be transforming the gallery space into an immersive and experiential late venue where music and visual art can be celebrated.”
