Rainbow Kitten Surprise at The Academy: A lesson in live performance

North Carolina natives, Rainbow Kitten Surprise brought the energy to The Academy on Tuesday, April 4.

The second of two sold-out dates at the Dublin venue, the five-piece were on fine form from the outset, jumping into fan favourite tracks, ‘Hide’, ‘No Vacancy’, and ‘Holy War’.

The alternative-rock outfit have attracted a cult following ever since emerging onto the scene in 2013, and this was no more evident than on the night.

Fans donned elaborate outfits with some carrying signs displaying their affection for the group.

One colourful sign spotted at the barrier read: “Best honeymoon ever.”

Bassist Charlie Holt’s exuberance and dance moves were also a sight to behold as the crowd gave everything back to the band and more for the duration.

‘Mr Redundant’ and ‘Seven’ were other standouts from a 20-track long setlist which finished with a triumphant encore of ‘Cocaine Jesus’ and ‘It’s Called: Freefall’.

As a band, it’s clear that RKS have established themselves as a live force, and one that is hopefully around for many years to come.
