Padraig Conlon 09 Feb 2023

Today marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of one of Dublin’s most famous sons – author, playwright and rebel Brendan Behan.

Our photographer Paul Reardon took to the city’s streets to capture some of the places where we can still remember him.

The location of Behan’s first home on Russell Street.

St Canice’s CBS – Behan’s primary school on North Circular Road – now the HQ of the Communications Workers Union

70 Kildare Road Crumlin – Behan’s home from 1937.

Plaque on home at 70 Kildare Road.

Mural by artist Shane Sutton at Richmond Cottages – close to 13 Russell Street.
