Arthur Griffith walking tour
Padraig Conlon 23 Aug 2022Together with historian John Seery, Five Lamps Arts Festival have organised a commemorative walking tour to mark the centenary of Arthur Griffith’s death on Saturday 27th August at 11 am.
Join John for a 90 minute stroll through Griffith’s Dublin with stops at Henrietta Street, his birthplace at 61 Upper Dominick Street, his school in St Mary’s Place and his grave at Glasnevin cemetery, exploring along the way people and places in the North Inner City which helped shape one of our capital’s most controversial sons.
Printer, journalist, editor (the first to publish work by James Joyce), political thinker, Republican, founder of Sinn Féin, President of Dáil Éireann, and signatory of the Anglo-Irish Treaty, Griffith remains an enigmatic figure to this day and by the time of his death on August 12th, 1922 he had packed much into his 51 years.
