Traveller singer Sharyn Ward releases first original single

Singer and proud Traveller, Sharyn Ward has today released her first original single ‘Feeling Free’ on all major streaming platforms.

“Through the years I’ve seen the relationships between Traveller men and their horses, especially my own husband and his horse,” said Sharyn Ward.

“I’m really inspired by their unbreakable bond, and the happiness and freedom they find on horseback.”

‘Feeling Free’ is a traditional Irish song with a modern twist featuring a broad spectrum of instruments from lively banjo, to rhythmic accordion.

Ward’s vocals are strong, upbeat and melodic and weave Cant (Traveller language) throughout the song, reflecting her pride in her culture.

The song tells the story of one Traveller man and his horse, riding free on the Dublin coastline, leaving behind the pressures and challenges that Traveller men face in Ireland, 2022.

“I want to use my music as a way for people to learn more about the Traveller community.

“I want people to celebrate all the wonderful things about our community and to be aware of the struggles we face too” said Sharyn

Sharyn Ward is a traditional singer and proud Irish Traveller based in Dublin.

A finalist in Ireland’s Got Talent, and winner at the Traveller Pride Awards 2019.

The following year, Sharyn released her first album, ‘One Starry Night’ in 2020. Sharyn continues to break barriers with her music across the country and is working on a number of original songs for future release.
