Half Moon win U13 Waterpolo Irish Cup

Half Moon U13 Irish Cup 2023 winners

As Half Moon Swimming & Waterpolo Club celebrates their 125th anniversary in 2023, and ten years after the last Irish Cup success, they now have another trophy to add to their roll of honour after they beat fellow Dublin club Sandycove in last week’s U13 Girls Cup final in Galway.

With both clubs winning their respective groups with 3 wins out of 3, Half Moon faced Clonard in their semi-final where they were comfortable winners (13-1), while the second semi-final proved a much tighter affair with Sandycove facing 2022 winners Tribes with the game finishing 4-4 at full time with Sandycove advancing after a penalty shoot-out (9-7) to take their place in the final.

The final was just as close with Half Moon edging it out 5-4 to win their first U13 Cup title.

The girl’s MVP of the tournament was won by Robyn Duffy (Half Moon).

Half Moon Swimming & Waterpolo Club, founded in 1898 is one of Ireland’s oldest and most successful swimming and waterpolo clubs.

It was originally known then as “The Poolbeg Bathers Association”.

In the years that followed, the name was changed to Half Moon Swimming Club to reflect more accurately the fact that members of the club were participating in swimming competitions held at the time.

The club have a very active junior waterpolo section, for girls and boys, training several times a week in Swan Leisure and UCD Sport, in Dublin.

They compete at junior age grades from U12 to U19, in Irish and Leinster Leagues and Cups.

Half Moon Swimming & Waterpolo Club have a proud history in Senior Mens and Womens waterpolo.

Their Mens squads train in UCD Sport, Dublin and they field several teams in Leagues and Cups.
