Fianna Fáil TD for Dublin Mid-West, Shane Moynihan, has called for increased investment in community infrastructure across the constituency to ensure local facilities and services keep pace with its growing population.
Moynihan said that he would like to see greater funding to support community organisations and improve the facilities available to residents across areas including Lucan, Clondalkin and Citywest.
“Dublin Mid-West is home to growing communities, and to keep up with this growth I want to see greater investment in the facilities and shared spaces available to people living in our constituency. As our population increases, we need to ensure that our community infrastructure is supported to grow alongside it,” he said.
Moynihan noted, “we are incredibly fortunate to have fantastic community groups and organisations across our constituency. The services these groups provide have a meaningful impact on our community. I want to see them supported with the funding and facilities they need to continue and expand on that work.””
According to Census 2022, the population of the wider South Dublin County Council area increased by 8% between 2016 and 2022, growing by more than 22,000 people to over 301,000.
Moynihan acknowledged the work of South Dublin County Council and local community organisations in delivering improvements to community facilities and services, but said additional investment is needed to meet the demands of expanding communities.
“Dublin Mid-West has both a growing population and fantastic community organisations. We need to make sure they have the infrastructure and resources to continue their work,” he said.
“Investment in community infrastructure is an investment in the people and organisations that make our communities what they are.”
