Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has signed contracts with Evara for the delivery of 230 new social homes at Bishop Gardens on Council-owned land in Cherrywood.
The commencement of Bishop Gardens marks another important step in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council’s ongoing delivery of new homes across the county.
One of several projects being advanced through the Competitive Dialogue process, the development contributes to a broader programme of over 1,000 homes currently progressing through various stages of development across the county.

The development will deliver 230 modern homes, comprising 103 two-bedroom, 81 one-bedroom, 34 studio and 12 three-bedroom apartments.
Located within the Cherrywood Strategic Development Zone (SDZ), the scheme will include onsite resident parking, extensive bicycle parking, and private and public open spaces.
The development has also been designed to support active travel through walking and cycling infrastructure.
Speaking at the contract signing, An Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Barry Saul, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, said:
“Every new home delivered represents a positive change in someone’s life. The signing of these contracts for Bishop Gardens marks a major milestone for Cherrywood and for Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown. These 230 homes will provide secure, high-quality accommodation in a well-connected community with excellent amenities and transport links. It is encouraging to see another significant housing project moving forward as we continue to address local housing need.”
Frank Curran, Chief Executive of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, added:
“Bishop Gardens reflects the Council’s determination to accelerate the delivery of new homes across the county. Working in partnership with Evara, we are transforming Council-owned land into a high-quality residential development that will provide 230 social homes in one of Ireland’s fastest-growing urban areas. This project will make a meaningful contribution to meeting housing demand while supporting the long-term vision for Cherrywood as a sustainable and thriving community.”
The Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne T.D., said:
“Good to see this critical step forward for the project to deliver 230 high-quality homes here at Bishop Gardens in Cherrywood.
With significant funding from my Department, these will be decent and energy-efficient homes providing a range of housing options to meet the needs of people in this community.
While this is but one of the first steps on this particular project, it shows once again that we have a robust pipeline in place to deliver new homes at the scale needed to meet the ambitious targets set out in our Housing Action Plan.
We now have real momentum in the construction sector, with all of the key indicators – including planning approvals, commencements, and completions – all showing that we are headed in the right direction, and I am driving on.”
Michael Hynes, Chief Executive Officer of Evara, said:
“The delivery of 230 new homes at Bishop Gardens will be an important contribution to housing supply in Cherrywood, and Evara is pleased to be working with Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council to develop it. This exceptional development will provide studio, one, two and three-bedroom apartments for a broad range of households, with excellent transport connections, including the Luas and the M50, and a wide range of parks, community facilities and neighbourhood services close by. We are committed to delivering the scheme to a high standard, offering residents modern, energy-efficient homes within a sustainable community. This marks our latest partnership with the Council and reflects the value of the Competitive Dialogue process in delivering quality housing. We look forward to seeing the project progress.”
Supported by funding from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage through the Social Housing Capital Investment Programme, the project will make an important contribution to meeting local housing needs and increasing the supply of social housing within the county.
Construction of the Bishop Gardens development is expected to be completed by mid-2029. Updates on this project and other housing initiatives are available on the Council’s website and social media channels.
