Loftus co-opted onto SDCC

Sinn Féin has co-opted Daniel Loftus onto South Dublin County Council for the Palmerstown-Fonthill LEA.

The co-option was required following the resignation of Councillor Niamh Fennell.

Prior to his co-option onto SDCC, Loftus served as a member of the Community Safety Forum for North Clondalkin, a Director of the Board of Management for multiple community centres in Palmerstown-Fonthill, Chairperson of the Quarryvale Residents Association and a Peace Commissioner.

He has also spent the last four years working alongside Dublin Mid-West TD Mark Ward in his constituency office.

Loftus said, “it is an honour and privilege to have been nominated by my party colleagues to replace Niamh as a councillor for the Palmerstown-Fonthill LEA.”

“Niamh was a brilliant councillor, and it was great to work alongside her over the last two years.”

“During her time on the Council, she worked tirelessly for the people of our community,” Loftus said.

Fennell announced her resignation from SDCC in May, saying she had been forced to emigrate to Australia.

“Unfortunately, due to the failings of Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil she felt that she had no other option but to leave Ireland for a better life elsewhere,” Loftus noted.

“It is a tragedy that so many of our people feel hopeless in our country and feel that they must leave Ireland for a better life,” he said.

“It is the responsibility of us here to make our country a better place to live not only for us but for those looking for a reason to come home.”

Loftus said “Sinn Féin has a strong record on South Dublin County Council campaigning for more investment in much-needed community services and social housing.”

“I look forward to working with the Sinn Féin team on South Dublin County Council,” he said.
