Sinn Féin councillor Daithí Doolan has criticised Panda Recycling for increasing the price for customers.
From February 1, the half-yearly service charge will increase to €70, the general waste per life price will rise to €13.50 (an increase of nearly 15%) and the recycling per lift cost will rise to €1.25.
Doolan noted that this is the second time in as many years that Panda Recycling has increased prices for customers.
The Ballyfermot-Drimnagh councillor, who leads Sinn Féin on Dublin City Council, said “Panda claim the increase is down to an increase in the minimum wage; this is simply a smoke screen”
“This is a further attempt to gauge the public’s pockets in the drive to increase profits at all costs.
“The new government must introduce legislation to allow Dublin’s local authorities to re-enter the market and provide a publicly owned domestic waste collection service.”
This is the only way we can guarantee a comprehensive, cost-effective waste management service that meets the needs of householders, businesses and the environment,” he said.
