Local Fianna Fáil General Election candidate, Teresa Costello has called on the Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee to re-deploy Tallaght’s Garda resources back to the area.
It has come to the attention of the councillor that Gardaí from Tallaght and Rathfarnham Garda stations have been deployed to sit outside the Russian Embassy 24/7.
Speaking on the matter Costello says the community of Tallaght in particular is dealing with its own issues, and the shortage of Gardaí in the area is having a knock on effect on 999 calls.
“I am calling on Minister McEntee to deploy the Garda resources from Rathfarnham and Tallaght back to their relevant stations with immediate effect,” she said.
Costello said that the area of Tallaght in particular is facing its own anti-social behaviour issues, and the lack of Garda resources in the area is leading to Gardaí not being able to follow up on 999 calls.
“I know of anti-social behaviour happening here in my area of Tallaght. In these instances, there have been constituents waiting around for a Garda response which leads to nothing.
“This simply cannot happen. We need a strong Garda presence in all our communities to ensure law on order and that our communities are safe.
Costello has written to Minister McEntee in relation to this matter.
“I have written to Minister McEntee in relation to this issue and have asked why there are Gardaí that are currently deployed from Tallaght and Rathfarnham to the Russian Embassy.
These Gardaí are sitting outside the Russian Embassy 24/7, and I ask that they be returned to their community Garda stations where their resources are needed even more.”
