Last Thursday, May 25, the Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Cllr. Emma Murphy officially opened the new Playspace at Old Bawn, Dodder Valley Park.
The Mayor was joined by local Councillors, staff of South Dublin County Council, and guests to celebrate this event.
Speaking at the event Mayor Emma Murphy said:
“Play is recognised as a vital activity for healthy child development. Children also need time in nature for their physical and mental wellbeing. Integrating a playspace into this well used park has brought more life into it right throughout the day.”
According to the council, the playspace at Old Bawn also incorporates a toddler specific playground, which was chosen and voted for by members of the local community, through the 300k Have Your Say Public Participatory Budget process.
Designed and installed by Kompan Ireland, the playspace focuses on the play needs of all children and has a specific areas for toddlers and younger children.
Consisting of two flat swings, two cradle swings, a basket swing, a balance trail, a wobble belt bridge, a slide, and a sand play area, this is the first of three playspaces for Dodder Valley Park as well as the interconnecting play trail.
