St Mary's Church, Crumlin.

Deputy Lord Mayor of Dublin, Councillor Carolyn Moore officially launched the Crumlin Walking Trail Map and Guide at a meeting of local people and community groups in St. Mary’s Parish Hall yesterday.

“The Crumlin Walking Trail Map and Guide highlights the very interesting buildings and places of interest in the area which provide a link back to the past.

“It is great to see the enthusiasm of the local community in their local history and heritage through their development of the Walking Trail”.

The Walking Trail highlights 15 buildings or places of interest in the Crumlin area, with a suggested walking route, and includes a summary of Crumlin history and notes on each of the 15 points on the Walking Trail.

Among the points of interest are St. Mary’s Church and Cemetery, Crumlin Hospital, Drimnagh Castle and The Half Way House.

Councillor Moore, also launched the Crumlin Heritage Audit Report and the renewed Crumlin and Walkinstown History Group.

The Crumlin Heritage Audit Report identifies and highlights heritage sites and features of interest in Crumlin and provides recommendations on the best way to highlight and interpret these.

Councillor Moore said: “The Crumlin Heritage Audit Report provides a very interesting and readable summary of Crumlin from the earliest times up to the present with wonderful photographs and links for further reading.

“This is a marvellous reference guide for anyone interested in Crumlin. I understand that the Crumlin and Walkinstown History Group wishes to make a fresh start and I wish the Group well in its future activities”.

The renewed Crumlin and Walkinstown History Group is a voluntary group of individuals who are interested in the history of Crumlin and Walkinstown and the surrounding areas.

The group has decided to initiate a call for new members and plans to carry out a number of projects over the coming year.
