Dún Laoghaire Rathdown is illuminated this Christmas to spread light and joy right across the county as Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council announce their plans for the festive season.
The county sparkles with thousands of lights and several buildings are bathed with a magical glow. A very special ‘Tree of Hope’ at Marlay Park radiates with optimism for brighter times ahead as we emerge from the darkness of 2020.
An Cathaoirleach Cllr Una Power joined Santa this weekend to officially switch on the lights.
She said: “This year will be a bit different and we can’t hold our usual large gatherings to switch on the lights but there are brighter times ahead. Our extra illuminations and Tree of Hope are a reminder that this too shall pass and we can enjoy the magic of Christmas and be optimistic about the future.”
A beautifully illuminated forest walk at Marlay Park is a lovely compliment to the Tree of Hope. The one-kilometre trail amongst the trees is fully accessible for wheelchairs and buggies and is an oasis of calm beneath the twinkling lights.
Santa Post Boxes are in place at dlr LexIcon in Dún Laoghaire, Marlay Park in Rathfarnham, Deerpark in Mount Merrion and Cabinteely Park by special commission of Santa Claus. The extra Santa post boxes are in place to encourage children to post their letters early this year so the elves have plenty of time to make presents.
They too are spending extra time washing their hands and keeping their distance in the toy factories of the North Pole this year. The postal address is Santa Claus, North Pole, The Arctic, The World, The Universe. The letters are whizzed off to the North Pole via Elf Airlines direct to Santa who replies to every single one.
Santa is going high-tech with a special Santa Vlog from the North Pole each Saturday before Christmas in December on dlr Events Facebook. This free online vlog will connect children with Santa Claus in a dramatically new and personal way “live” from the North Pole.
Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council’s Christmas Market is going virtual this year and it is a great opportunity to showcase the wide range of exciting and innovative business across the county.
