Classic concert to mark 50 years of Montessori Society

St Nicholas Montessori Society of Ireland have announced a concert date re-welcoming flagship acappella vocal ensemble Anúna to the beautiful surrounds of Christ Church Dun Laoghaire on Saturday, February 8.

Having released 17 albums since their formation in 1987, Anúna have gone to become one of the most respected names on the Irish cultural landscape, representing the beauty of Irish musical heritage and literature all over the world for 30 years.

The ensemble was originally founded by Irish composer Michael McGlynn in an effort to create a physical voice for his compositions, many of which are strongly influenced by the history and mythology of his native Ireland, a country which has a long and sophisticated history of traditional singing or sean nós.

McGlynn uses this tradition as the basis for many of his arrangements and compositions. Within these songs are universal truths told through the landscape, the philosophy and the mythology of Ireland and beyond.

Anúna’s numerous accolades, international awards and nominations include the Classical Brit Awards, National Entertainment Award for Classical Music, a Hot 100 positioning on the US Billboard Album Charts, an award-winning PBS show and DVD, and featured artist contributions to three Grammy award-winning albums.

St Nicholas Montessori Society Ireland was founded in 1970 by Sighle Fitzgerald and a group of like-minded educators.

Since then the society has gone on to become Ireland’s leading provider of Montessori Education.
