THERE will be a nip in the air as the annual Dalkey Lobster Festival returns to the historic Southside coastal town this week.

Once again supported by FLAG (Fisheries Local Action Group) North East, the festival will combine culinary delights with entertainment and artisan exhibits from August 22 to 25.

A host of well-known faces will appear on the Main Stage including Pat Kenny, Bobby Kerr, Louis Copeland and Lorraine Keane, who will be there on behalf of Make-A-Wish,  the charity beneficiary this year.

Several leading chefs such as Martin Shanahan of Fishy Fishy in Kinsale, Arun Kapil of Green Saffron, freelance cook, Ballymaloe’s Ivan Whelan and chef and food writer, Domini Kemp will also take to the stage.

They will be joined at this crustacean extravaganza by eminent local chefs, Raulf Djeffal of Ouzos, Kristin Burgess of The Dalkey Duck and Jérôme Fernandes of Guinea Pig.

Many of the bars and restaurants will host top musical acts and it is expected that over 6,000kg of lobster will be served over the weekend.

The event is supported by FLAG (Fisheries Local Action Group) a community led local development scheme, to implement development strategies in designated Irish coastal regions, aimed at creating sustainable communities.

Commenting on this year’s festival, organiser, Camilo Borza of Benito’s restaurant, said: “We are looking forward to putting on another fantastic Lobster Festival in Dalkey.

“And we athrilled to once again welcome locals as well as visitors from further afield to our beautiful coastal town where they can expect plenty of delicious seafood, great music and craic, as the summer draws to a close.”

The Dalkey Lobster Festival is the perfect fusion of the best local food, top musical acts and great entertainment and one of the major highlights of the seafood calendar.
