THE Sallynoggin Community & Senior Centre was officially opened last week as a multi-functional extension to the Sallynoggin Youth and Community Facility.
Representatives of the Sallynoggin Old Folks Association, were joined by cathaoirleach, Cllr Ossian Smyth, and Ministers and TDs, as well as elected members of Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council and local residents at the opening.
Speaking at the event, Cllr Smyth said the newly extended community centre would provide “a warm, welcoming and bright space for all members of the community to meet, enjoy shared interests and play an active part in the local community”.
Cllr Smith thanked the centre management committee for their hard work in a voluntary capacity in supporting their local community.
Cllr Smith also commended Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council’s own architects on the design and high energy efficient rating NZEB standard (nearly zero energy building), noting that this is one of the first public buildings to reach that standard.
Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County has one of the largest proportions of persons aged 65 years and over of all local authority areas nationally.
“The provision of facilities and support services for our older people is an area of significant importance to the council,” a spokesperson said.
The Sallynoggin Community & Senior Centre aims to provide an opportunity for more community-based services to be provided.
Senior and community groups will now have access to this new facility to support their wellbeing.
