Southside superheros are standing up to bullies

Niamh Kelly (16) Rathfarnham, Valerie Skrypnychuk, (15) Stillorgan, Katelin Jackson (13) Sandyford, Kinga Ksiazek, (17) Sandyford; Lauryn McDonnell (17) Ballinteer, Mawada Al-Akari (12) Sandyford, Alyssa O'Leary (13), Dundrum and Liana Caira (17) Stillorgan are superheros standing up to bullies.

THE Student Council at St Raphaela’s Secondary School in Stillorgan has come up with an unique way to harness the power of eight cinematic superheroes to promote the ISPCC’s Shield My School Anti-Bullying programme.

Wearing hand decorated eye masks representing Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Black Widow, Elasti-girl, Spiderman, Ironman and Captain America, hundreds of students linked hands throughout the school building to highlight the importance of promoting an anti-bullying environment.

Ms Crena Shevlin, one of the teachers involved with the initiative, said: “Our Student Council has been involved in highlighting the ISPCC’s Shield My School programme to all our students for several years now.

“They came up with the superhero idea during a brainstorming meeting, we believe that the idea is unique to St Raphaela’s and we’re delighted with the wonderful response it has received.”
