Kilmacud Crokes GAA saddle up for Breast Cancer Ireland

Pictured at the launch of the cycle were Pat Rowley; Jeanne McGann, Head of Marketing & Communications, Nissan Ireland; Professor Arnold Hill, chairman, Breast Cancer Ireland; and Donie Dowling.

ALMOST 90 members of Kilmacud Crokes in Stillorgan will be saddling up over the June Bank Holiday to complete the Nissan Malin to Mizen Challenge, with funds raised from the venture being split between Breast Cancer Ireland and the club.

This is the fourth time this challenge has been undertaken by the club and the number of cyclists has grown each time. The group will cycle a daunting 670km and they aim to exceed the €108,000 they raised in 2016. The group has raised over €100,000 for each of the beneficiaries from the last three events.

Professor Arnold Hill, chairman of Breast Cancer Ireland, has also taken up the challenge and will lend his support by joining the group in Galway on Friday, June 1.

CEO of Breast Cancer Ireland, Aisling Hurley, said: “We are so grateful for the huge commitment and support of Kilmacud GAA Club and the substantial funds raised over the years through the Nissan M2M Challenge and we encourage all of our volunteers and supporters along the route to come out and support the cyclists as they pass by over the June Bank Holiday Weekend. Events such as this are an amazing way of raising awareness within communities of the importance of good breast health."

Chairman of the fundraising committee, Liam O’Carroll, said: “We are looking forward to the challenge which reverses the route we took in 2016 and are excited to be getting on our bikes again to raise funds for this worthy cause and for our club. We all know by now what a gruelling challenge it is, but hopefully the weather will be good to us and we know that there will be a warm welcome for us when we all arrive at Mizen on Sunday, June 3.”
