THINKERS, creators, educators, innovators and fun makers will be celebrated at the upcoming UCD Festival that was launched on the Southside campus last week.
The famous college and Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council will host this, the second year of the festival, which takes place on Saturday, June 10.
Open to all, this is a truly unique event, the only one of its kind in an Irish university. It is a day when festival attendees can enjoy at first-hand the excellent facilities on the Belfield campus, while meeting with academics and students and exploring all that UCD has to offer.
The programme of free events includes thought-provoking talks, interactive exhibitions with UCD scientists and researchers, creative workshops, live performances, family fun, campus tours and an international food fair.
Some UCD Festival 2017 highlights include talks on ‘The Big Questions’, with themes such as ‘Designing a New Way of Aging’ and ‘Faking Breaking News’.
Meanwhile, the Philosophers’ Café will host philosophers from UCD School of Philosophy who will discuss free will, human consciousness, moral certainty, political power and other topics in a lively and informal setting.
Other Spoken Word Events include ‘From Scribble to Stage and Screen’, when Grainne Humphreys, Festival Director of the Audi Dublin International Film Festival and UCD alumna, will chair a panel discussion exploring contemporary Irish screenwriting and film-making with key writers and practitioners.
‘Mission to Mars with Dr Niamh Shaw’ will see the budding astronaut sharing her adventures with the crew on the Mars Analog Mission simulation project in the Utah desert.
The O’Brien Centre for Science will also play host to a range of interactive events.
Meet the UCD scientists at the ‘Science for You’ event designed to bring science to life by featuring an exciting, enlightening and engaging line-up.
The UCD Sport & Fitness Centre will be host to a range of high octane activities for families and children to enjoy. There will be BBQs, Reading Tents, and Leinster Rugby mini-rugby drills.
