THE scenic route between Dún Laoghaire and Howth will become a sea of green on St Patrick’s Day as participants take part in the annual Aware Harbour2Harbour Walk.
The event on Friday, March 17 offers an enjoyable and challenging alternative for families and friends looking to mark the country’s national day.
Aware charity partners Leinster Rugby put their best foot forward as they launched the event, along with Eamonn O’Reilly, CEO of event sponsor Dublin Port Company, who are providing plenty of fun activities at the ‘Halfway Hooley’.
Participants can register online now at aware.ie and all funds raised go to Aware’s nationwide support, education and information services.
Speaking ahead of the launch, Luke McGrath, who captained Leinster in their winning performance against Edinburgh said: “The Harbour2Harbour Walk takes participants along the spectacularly scenic Dublin Bay.
“More than 2,000 people are expected to take part. Walkers can choose to walk the 26km/16.2mile route, starting in Howth Harbour and walking to Dun Laoghaire Harbour or starting at Dun Laoghaire Harbour and walking to Howth. The walks kick off at 10.30am on the day.”
Dublin Port Company is sponsoring the event for the third year running and will again provide a fun-filled ‘Halfway Hooley’ at Berth 18, close to the Thomas Clarke (toll) bridge.
CEO Eamonn O’Reilly said: “The Aware Harbour2Harbour Walk showcases the exceptional beauty of Dublin Bay and the port itself, which is something we should all be very proud of.
“Berth 18 was a very welcome stop-off last year for the event and I think it will be the same this year as people reach the halfway point.
“We are delighted to help Aware make this a really enjoyable event to be part of and look forward to welcoming people to the port on the day.”
Online registration for the Harbour2Harbour Walk is now available on aware.ie. Participants are also encouraged to raise further sponsorship from colleagues, friends and family, with all funds raised going to Aware’s nationwide depression support, education and information services.
Aware also provides extensive services throughout Dublin and more information is available on the website. The Aware Harbour2Harbour Walk is supported by Dublin Port Company and Dublin radio station 98FM.
