THERE were great celebrations to mark the official opening of the Orwell Healthcare residential care home in Rathgar recently.
Following a €15 million investment programme, one of Ireland’s most respected healthcare providers unveiled its specialist Acquired Brain Injury Unit with neuro-rehabilitation programme, one of the first nursing homes on the Southside to offer this service.
The investment saw the development of two new state-of-the-art dwellings, The Elgin and The Raglan, and the refurbishment of the original 1830’s dwelling, Orwell House.
Over 100 new care beds across a number of disciplines including long and short term care, convalescence, respite, dementia and acquired brain injury are now open while 180 new clinical and support services jobs have been created.
The new Acquired Brian Injury (ABI) Unit will open up the campus to adults from 18 years of age.
It is serviced by a multi-disciplinary team headed by a senior physiotherapist specialising in neuro-rehabilitation.
Patients discharged from or awaiting beds in hospitals such as The National Rehabilitation Hospital and the Royal Hospital Donnybrook can be referred to Orwell Healthcare for the specialist rehabilitation support.
The family run business was founded in 1988 by husband and wife team Peter and Dr Mary Jones
Speaking at the event, Mr Jones said: “Today is the start of a new era at Orwell Healthcare. We are particularly delighted to launch our Acquired Brain Injury Unit, and look forward to welcoming patients of all ages here to get the specialist care and rehabilitation therapies they need to help them become independent again.”
