“Immediate action” needed to tackle Dublin 15 waiting lists for driving tests, Says Currie

Fine Gael TD Emer Currie has said that “immediate action” is needed to tackle high driving test waiting lists in Dublin 15.

Statistics from the Mulhuddart driving test centre show that the number of applicants increased from 2,771 in July 2025 to 2,884 in January 2026.

The Dublin West TD said that in 2025, the RSA launched an action plan to reduce driving test waiting times across Ireland, with waits of 27 weeks being reported in some areas; that was brought down to 10 weeks by September.

However, Currie said that the increase in waiting times in her area is “simply unacceptable.”

“Targets are not being met – and being missed by a margin of 100% – in Mulhuddart, according to data I have received,” she noted.

The nearby Maple House test centre saw only a marginal improvement over the same period.

According to the RSA’s own waiting time estimates, applicants for the Mulhuddart test centre are currently being offered invitations for the week commencing 20 July 2026, with an estimated wait of approximately 19 weeks.

At Maple House, applicants can expect a driving test invitation for the week commencing 1 June 2026, representing a wait of around 12 weeks.

“These delays are simply unacceptable. Learner drivers in Mulhuddart are facing waiting times that are far above the RSA’s own target,” Currie said.

“Learner drivers in Dublin West rely on obtaining a full licence to access work, education and their daily commitments. Long delays can have a real impact on people’s ability to get on with their lives,” she warned.

The Fine Gael TD said that further action is needed to bring the waiting lists in her area.

“The RSA must ensure that sufficient testing capacity is in place so that waiting times in Mulhuddart are brought back in line with the national target,” she said.
