Fianna Fáil TD Paul McAuliffe has welcomed news that Northside healthcare projects will receive €44.3 million in funding.
The funding will be delivered as part of the HSE’s executive capital plan for 2026.
In recent weeks, McAuliffe said that his constituency of Dublin North-West was “crying out” for investment and called on Tánaiste Simon Harris to loosen the pursestrings for Dublin 9 and 11.
Speaking in the Dáil in February, McAuliffe said “anyone who has visited Cappagh Hospital will know that the old nightingale wards are awaiting replacement. There is a master plan that is crying out for investment.”
He stated, “we want to see clear timelines and we need delivery. That is in every constituency across the country.”
As part of the €44.3 million in funding, €6.4 million will be allocated to the Finglas Primary Care Centre, €5.6 million will go towards construction and design works at the National Orthopaedic Hospital/Cappagh Hospital; €7.7 million will be designated for the Ballymun Primary Care Centre and €24.6 million will be spent “long-term improvements” to Beaumont Hospital.
McAuliffe said that constituents “often raise many of the projects in the NDP, although some specific projects have been on the drawing board for years.”
He listed a number of “long promised” projects for Dublin 9 and 11, such as the expansion of Beaumont Hospital, the construction of the Finglas Primary Care Centre, the development of Teach An Saol in Ballymun and the redevelopment of The National Orthopaedic hospital at Cappagh.
The Dublin North-West TD welcomed the funding announcement, but added “it is now vital that those in design and planning are delivered as soon as possible.
“In the case of the Finglas Primary Care Centre, this has been promised for years, but we are yet to see a shovel lifted. I anticipate that with this latest tranche of funding, the project be able to progress the next stage.”
This funding forms part of a wider national investment package which will see total funding of over €1.3 billion allocated to healthcare infrastructure in 2026.
