Local reps express condolences following fatal Northside bus incident

Dublin Central’s elected representatives have expressed their condolences following a fatal bus crash on the Northside this afternoon.

A person has been killed, and three people have been taken to hospital after a bus struck pedestrians on North Earl Street.

Gardaí are on the scene, and have advised the public to stay away and not share images of the accident.

Lord Mayor of Dublin Ray McAdam, a councillor for the North Inner City, said “I want to reassure Dubliners that the situation is being actively managed, and I would ask the public to avoid the area to allow emergency services to carry out their work.”

Sinn Féin TD Mary Lou McDonald said, “I am devastated to learn of this terrible incident in the heart of our city. My thoughts are with the family of the deceased and all of the people who were struck or caught up in this collision, with their families, friends, and loved ones, and with everyone affected by what must be a very frightening experience.”

“We thank Gardaí, Dublin Fire Brigade, ambulance crews and all first responders for their professionalism and courage,” she added.

“At this stage, our priority must be the well-being and recovery of those hurt, and the full support of their families.”

Social Democrats TD Gary Gannon said “my thoughts are with the individual who lost their life today and their loved ones. This is a shocking and tragic incident which has rocked our community. I wish all those who are injured a speedy recovery.

“For those in the city, please avoid the area and give emergency services the room to work. It’s essential during this time to follow guidance through official channels and reliable news sources.”

Labour TD Marie Sherlock said “I want to express my deepest condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of the individual who passed away in this tragic incident on North Earl Street this afternoon. My thoughts are with those who were injured in this awful incident, their loved ones who are anxiously awaiting news, and express my sincere wishes for their recovery. I am thinking too of those who have witnessed this distressing incident.”

“I want to thank sincerely and send my solidarity to the members of An Garda Síochána, Dublin Fire Brigade, the ambulance service, our local hospitals, and all first responders who responded to this incident,” and repeated calls for members of the public to not share photos of the accident.
