Government must now re-commit to redevelopment of Dalymount Park, says Senator

Following the announcement that Tolka Park is to be retained as a sports stadium, Labour Party representatives in Dublin are calling on the Government to urgently make clear that they will fund and fully support the redevelopment of Dalymount Park into a UEFA category three stadium.

Senator Marie Sherlock says that the decision to reverse the decision to demolish Tolka Park now puts the spotflight firmly on the future of Dalymount Park and its redevelopment.

The current plan for Dalymount is to redevelop it into a UEFA category 3 stadium and for those works to commence late this year.

Since 2015, Dublin City Council has spent millions working on the plans for the new stadium, including €900,000 in funding it received from the Government last year.

Senator Sherlock said: “This latest development must not mean the end of the Dalymount plan.

“It is vital that the Government now clarify that they will make available the necessary funding to proceed.

“Government has committed itself to growing football in this country in the run up to the Euros in 2028.

“Fully supporting the redevelopment the “Home of Irish Football” must form a key part of this plan.”
