Dublin Airport is set to get a new terminal-linked hotel that will create up to 550 jobs.
This is after Fingal County Council gave UK hotel group Arora the go ahead for a new 410-bedroom hotel adjacent to Terminal 2 at Dublin Airport.
It is estimated that the new luxury hotel, Arora’s first in Ireland, will cost €100 million to develop and will be one of the country’s largest hotels when completed.
The 11-storey hotel will feature a leisure centre with a gym, steam room, sauna and jacuzzi on the third floor, and a penthouse bar and executive lounge area on the top floor.
Plans for the hotel were lodged last May after Arora was chosen by daa through a public tender process to design and build, finance and operate a new hotel on a site just in front of the existing T2 car park.
Construction is expected to take between 24 and 30 months with up to 300 construction jobs expected to be created.
When open, the hotel will employ around 250 staff.
The granting of planning permission may be appealed to An Bord Pleanála which could potentially delay construction work by up to four months or even stop the construction of the new hotel altogether if APB overturns the council decision.
At present, Arora owns and operates 12 hotels including 10 airport hotels and has more than 5,000 bedrooms in the greater London area, including at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted airports.
