DUBLIN Lord Mayor Hazel Chu was in Finglas recently for the launch of a celebration of recovery from drug and alcohol addiction in the area.
The Finglas Addiction Support Team (FAST) nominated September as a ‘Finglas Does Recovery’ month to highlight the numerous success stories of locals overcoming their own personal addiction.
The socially-distanced launch at the 53-year-old iconic Church of Annunciation coincided with the premiere of a video supporting recovery from drug and alcohol addiction featuring well known Fair City actor and comedian Eric Lalor as well as other well-known local faces.
FAST also teamed up with Classic Hits FM to promote the celebration and the station’s popular Niall Boylan show featured an inspiring interview with Joe, a Finglas man in recovery.
In 2019 FAST supported over 575 men and women to access treatment services and recovery in Finglas.
“We know that lifelong recovery may often present as a mammoth task to someone in the early days but this concept of ‘recovery’ becomes more of a possibility if they have a supportive network and are backed by their local communities,” said FAST CEO, Amy Roche.
“And if systems and society enables this process and breaks down stigma by giving opportunities to people in recovery.
“Finglas does Recovery is calling for everyone to support and get behind people in recovery.
“Men, women and families in recovery are achieving great things in life, they are successful professionals, academics, doctors, entrepreneurs, and they are mothers, fathers, daughters, brothers, sisters.”
