THE development of a Lidl store in Ballymun is well underway and expected to be completed this summer.

Lidl Ireland and Walls Construction began work on the eagerly anticipated store in March 2019. The development also includes office space on the first and second floors, a customer car park and student accommodation in two large blocks with over 360 bed units, living areas and retail space.

The site is located at the junction of Ballymun Road and Balbutcher Lane.

According to Walls Construction Communications and Industrial Relations Manager Ian Barrett, the project is progressing well and both the store and related works will be finished at the same time.

Mr Barrett confirmed that the project is on schedule for completion this summer.

“At the end of the day, the student accommodation has to be ready for September,” Mr Barrett said.

He said that along with the recent reopening of the Metro Hotel, the completed development will be a welcome addition to Ballymun.”

Cllr Noleen Reilly (Ind) said the local community are looking forward to the opening of Lidl.

“Ballymun is badly in need of additional shops so this is great for locals,” she told Northside People. “I don't drive myself so it’s great that it’s so local.”

Cllr Reilly said that issues such as parking had now been resolved.

At the beginning of construction work, Alan Barry, Lidl’s Director of Property & Central Services, welcomed the community’s support for the development.

“I would like to thank local residents for the support we received and highlight the positive engagement with Dublin City Council in securing a development which will be another major step in the renewal of Ballymun,” he said.
