THE Rediscovery Centre in Ballymun is celebrating the launch of their new Boiler House Café, which has a focus on good coffee, tasty food and environmental sustainability.
Lord Mayor, Paul McAuliffe, officially opened the café, which is Ballymun’s newest social space at what is now the National Centre for the Circular Economy.
The launch provided samples of the café’s produce, fun family activities and tours of the Rediscovery Centre.
The Boiler House Café is located in the Rediscovery Centre and it’s providing top of the range Fairtrade tea and coffee with tasty homemade sandwiches.
The cafe is now open Monday to Friday from 8.30am-2.30pm.
As with all of the Rediscovery Centre’s enterprises, the Boiler House Café prioritises sustainability, reuse and the minimisation of waste.
Customers who bring their own reuse cup will also receive a discount when they purchase a hot beverage to encourage reuse and minimise any waste going to landfill.
In the unlikely event of food being left on the plate, all food waste will be composted onsite and used to fertilise the garden.
“The Rediscovery Centre is committed to creating an authentic customer experience complete with a specially created menu of signature sandwiches,” said Rediscovery Centre CEO Dr Sarah Miller.
“The menu has been carefully chosen to maximise taste and minimise food waste.
“We look forward to welcoming our regular customers as well as lots of new customers who are looking for an environmentally conscious dining experience.”
Dublin’s Lord Mayor Paul McAuliffe said he was delighted to officially open the Boiler House Café.
“This café is a welcome addition to our community and it is great that it has such a firm focus on environmental sustainability,” he added.
“It is great to see this initiative taking place in my own constituency."
The Rediscovery Centre supports four reuse social enterprises; Rediscover Furniture, Rediscover Fashion, Rediscover Paint and Rediscover Cycling.
These social enterprises use unwanted materials donated for reuse to create new upcycled products and designs.
Their creative products and those of other Irish designers are sold in the onsite Eco Store.
