A NUMBER of Northside watering holes have made their way onto a new list of the cheapest pubs in Dublin to down a pint of Guinness.
Downey's in Cabra, Kavanagh's in Stoneybatter, The Auld Triangle on Dorset Street and The Bridge Tavern, Summerhill, all made it to the top ten list that’s been complied for St Patrick’s Day on behalf of Aran sweater specialists, The Sweatershop.
A pint of plain cost just €4 in The Auld Triangle, famous for its mural dedicated to the 1981 hunger strikers.
The unpretentious pub on the corner of Dorset Street and Temple Street is a favourite for sports fans going to Croker and the regulars are always up for a bit of banter, according to the survey published last week.
You’ll also get a €4 pint in Downey's of Cabra, which was described by the survey reviewer as a warm, welcoming place to stop for a pint or two and a bit of craic with the regulars.
Kavanagh's in Stoneybatter are serving up Guinness for €4.20 in its turreted, redbrick building situated in the heart of this trendy Northside district where there’s lots of atmosphere and great places to eat and drink.
The cosy Bridge Tavern, Summerhill, is hard to miss thanks to its colourful murals celebrating the Dubs. And sipping a pint at the bar for a very reasonable €4.20 is the perfect way to whet your appetite before a match.
The good news for Northsiders was that only one establishment on this side of the Liffey made it to the top ten list of most expensive pubs in the city.
It’ll cost you €6.15 for pint in The Church on Mary Street but in fairness it’s a belting boozer with magnificent architecture, a cafe, restaurant, beer garden and outdoor terraces that attract Dubs and tourists in droves.
The Sweatershop, who are behind the survey, stock a wide variety of official Guinness merchandise including t-shirts, hats, rugby shirts and hoodies and you can now get 25 percent off in a St Patricks Day Sale online at www.sweatershop.com.
