THE Institute of Technology Blanchardstown (ITB) has awarded its annual sports scholarships to students who have demonstrated outstanding ability and high sporting performance.
A total of 22 scholarships were awarded to participants in rugby, basketball, soccer, badminton, pool, karate, Taekwon-do and kick boxing, with packages totalling €25,000.
A number of Northsiders were amongst the recipients, including Naoisha McAloon from Hollystown who’s studying Sports Management and Coaching with a scholarship for her high performance in soccer.
Naoisha won the Women’s national League with Peamount United and was a finalist in the FAI Cup in 2018. She has a professional contract from sports brand Unisport and is currently the only female in Ireland to be sponsored.
Eoghan Morgan from Glasnevin and Robert Manley from Whitehall will also be studying International Business thanks to a scholarship for high performance in soccer.
Emmanuel Okesola Esuku from Mulhuddart, studying Mechatronic Engineering, received his scholarship for his high performance in Basketball.
Emmanuel played with the Irish U17 and U18s Basketball Team and has represented Ireland in the three V3 U18 tournament in Hungary. He also won league and cup medals with Ongar Chasers.
Ronan Keaskin, ITB Sports Development Officer, presented the awards to students.
"ITB is delighted to present scholarships to such motivated students in such a wide range of sports,” he said.
“ITB has a growing number of clubs on campus and we welcome applications from anyone who wishes to participate in sports at a high level while committing to their course of study".
The ITB Sports Scholarships were established in 2006 to assist students with outstanding sports potential and ability and recipients compete both at national and international level.
In addition to a financial package, recipients are also provided with academic mentoring, free athletic therapy support and high performance personal training support.
Scholarships are awarded across a range of sports with applicants being short-listed and interviewed as part of the selection process.
ITB along with DIT and IT Tallaght officially became TU Dublin, Ireland’s first Technological University, on January 1.
