FINGAL County Council has received funding approval in principal for a housing project at Church Fields, Mulhuddart, from the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government.
The council welcomed the allocation of almost €15 million for three projects, including the one in Mulhuddart.
The other Fingal projects approved in principal are in Skerries and Lusk.
Another application for housing on lands at Cappagh in Dublin 11 remains under active consideration.
A total of €11 million is being allocated to the Church Fields project towards the extension and upgrade of Wellview Avenue, the provision of green infrastructure, as well as the construction of a new neighbourhood centre and three community buildings.
Fingal County Council Chief Executive, Paul Reid, welcomed news of the funding.
“The provision of housing remains a top priority for Fingal County Council and I commend all my team who have worked closely with the elected members to deliver this superb outcome,” he added.
Council Director of Housing and Community Margaret Geraghty said her department was delighted with news of the funding.
“We see it is a significant opportunity to progress the development of social and affordable across the region,” she continued.
“This funding will enable the delivery of social, affordable purchase and affordable rental homes on strategically located sites across the region.
“I look forward to moving forward with these projects in 2019, when Fingal County Council will continue to progress our plans to deliver more housing.”
Council Director of Planning and Strategic Infrastructure AnnMarie Farrelly said the provision of infrastructure to provide for housing was a key element of Fingal County Council’s drive to build housing across the region.
“The Church Fields project is one of three projects which are being driven by our Project Talamh team,” she continued.
“This latest funding from Government will now allow us to move forward with our plans for a very strategically important project in Dublin 15.”
