Finglas feline ‘Jillian’, owned by Barbara Mulreany, is now in with a chance of featuring on Cat Club packaging throughout Ireland next year.

Jillian can now look forward to a year’s supply of Cat Club food from Mackle, a prize worth over €2,000, as a reward for being a regional finalist.

Barbara from Jamestown Road explained how Jillian became part of her family.

“We got Jillian as a four-month-old rescue,” she said. “She was so sickly as a kitten that there were fears she might lose both her eyes, but thankfully a kind and dedicated fosterer nursed her back to health so we could adopt her, and she’s been with us ever since!

“She fit right in, and definitely isn’t the shy kitten we brought home. She’s always chirping and meowing, but when you live with two dogs, a snake and a bearded dragon it’s important to make your voice heard!

“Because we live in a busy, built up area she goes for walks on a harness and lead, and she’s learned from the dogs how to sit, beg and give the paw for treats.

“She’s still a cat at heart though and in the winter she lies on top of the reptile enclosure, taking full advantage of the heat lamps!”

Barbara came up with Jillian’s name after watching a Hollywood blockbuster movie.

“She’s named after Jillian Holtzmann, a character in the recent Ghostbusters film,” Barbara revealed.

“It’s always very funny watching her strutting around like one of the dogs. For such a little cat, she’s a huge part of the family.”

As part of the competition, Mackle Petfoods has also been making monthly donations of food to Co Down animal shelter, Almost Home, helping to take care of their rescue cats (and dogs) until they find a new home to be king or queen of!

Laura Rafferty, Marketing Manager at Mackle Petfoods said entries for Crown your Cat came in from all over Ireland and competition to be the face of Cat Club was “fierrrrce”.

“We’re down to our four finalists, Pedro from Crossgar, Co Down, April from West Belfast, Pantha from Waterford and Jillian from Finglas and we’ll be announcing the overall winner and face of ‘Cat Club’ for 2019 in December.”
