DUBLIN Airport’s Airside Operations team held a Safety Awareness Day recently to promote and enhance the culture of safety on the airfield.
More than 12,000 people from 470 companies work on or around the airfield at the airport. Ensuring their safety as well as the safety of passengers, aircraft and vehicles is a key priority for the Airside Operations team.
Dublin Airport Airside Manager Anthony Prior said all airport staff have a duty to ensure the highest standards of safety are complied with and promoted on the airfield regardless of which company they represent.
“We were delighted to welcome more than 1,000 colleagues from a range of organisations to our safety exhibition,” said Mr Prior.
“Not only did they receive information on keeping safe while working on the airfield, they were also given advice on how to care for their physical and mental wellbeing,” he added.
VHI were on hand to speak about general health with a specific focus on men’s health while the Irish Cancer Society presented on being cancer aware while working outdoors.
Airside Safety and Operations along with the Airport Fire Service, Foreign Object Debris (FOD) Control, and representatives of other companies and airlines who work on the airfield such as Ryanair and Aer Lingus, baggage handling companies Swissport and Menzies and OCS, who provide services to passengers with reduced mobility at Dublin Airport, also took part in the event.
They gave an exhibition to promote the ways in which their organisations are actively promoting the culture of safety on the airfield.
Teams from Dublin Airport’s Sustainability unit, Dublin Airport Central – Dublin Airport’s next generation business destination, and the North Runway Project also took the opportunity to brief colleagues on the latest updates in these areas.
More than 14.7 million passengers travelled through Dublin Airport in the first six months of this year, representing a 6 percent increase on the same period last year.
