A NUMBER of Northsiders were honoured with top accolades at the 98FM Best Of Dublin awards last week.
Finglas based firefighter and paramedic, Dave Horan, won the Dublin Hero award and CEO of Inner City Helping Homeless (ICHH) Anthony Flynn was declared Best Dubliner.
Anthony Flynn is a well-known inner city community activist who co-founded ICHH in 2013 response to the growing homelessness crisis. The organisation is 100 percent volunteer run and receives no Government funding. ICHH volunteers are on the streets of Dublin every night delivering supplies such as tea, coffee, soup, sandwiches, hats, scarves, gloves, clothes and sleeping bags to those sleeping rough on city streets.
Anthony was delighted with his award, but was quick to spread the honour to all those working with ICHH.
“I want to thank you all for your support,” he said.
“More importantly this award is dedicated to my volunteers and all that work with me to supply service.”
ICHH paid tribute to their CEO on the organisation’s official Facebook page.
“This award is an acknowledgement of the hard work and dedication that he puts in as an unpaid CEO fighting for people experiencing homelessness,” a statement reads. “He leads by example every single day and this award couldn't be more deserved.”
Dave Horan was nominated anonymously and decided to represent all the firefighters and paramedics of Finglas and all of Dublin Fire Brigade.
Other local winners at the awards included The Clonsilla Inn, which won Best Bar and The Fabric Counter, Smithfield, which won Best Shop.
Shelbourne FC fitness coach David O’Connor, who ran 10 marathons in 10 days on one track for Aware, won the Sports category. Little Pace Butchers in Clonee picked up an award in the Best Butcher category.
This year, 25,000 nominations were received from Dubliners for the Best Of Dublin awards sponsored by Des Kelly Interiors and over 280,000 votes were cast.
