A NORTHSIDE singer/songwriter is hoping to strike a chord with his new single about a boy growing up in a home blighted by domestic violence.
Ciarán Moran, who began performing aged just 13 back in 2009, is now making waves on the Irish music scene and has worked with big names like Aslan and Christy Moore.
He opened for the Finglas band on their Made In Dublin Tour at Vicar Street in 2017 and will be part of the Feel No Shame Tour this year.
The band’s Billy McGuiness has described Moran’s latest release, Mother, as the ‘This Is’ of 2018, referring back to Aslan’s ‘80s mega-hit.
Before being given the opportunity to open up Aslan, Moran supported one of Ireland’s most successful artists, Damien Dempsey, on his No Force on Earth tour throughout the North and West of Ireland,
The heartfelt lyrics and composition for Mother were written by Moran himself, and the single is set for digital release at the end of March.
He says the song was written about a young boy growing up in a home where he had no choice but to become immune to the noise of his father beating or abusing his mother on a daily basis.
However, he points out that the songs he writes don’t affect him personally and are not what he may have gone through in life.
“Who wants to listen to my problems?” he said on an interview with FM104.
“People want to listen to things that relates to them and not what goes on in my life.
“When I wrote the song I felt that the concept will relate to a lot of people around Ireland and in the world today.”
Mother will be released digitally on Mother’s Day, March 11.
The single was recorded in Beardfire Music Studio/ Label in Dublin by highly regarded producer/artist Rohan Kealy.
Moran hopes to keep recording for his debut EP, which he hopes to release during the summer.
In the meantime, he can look forward to playing more gigs with Aslan where fans will get to hear Mother and a few more of his compositions.
