A CHEEKY burlesque performer from Finglas has created a sensational show that’s set to performed at The Grand Social on Liffey Street Lower on July 27.
Gala Gray – AKA Stephanie Gray – has lined up some of the most outrageous acts from Ireland and the UK for the one-off show called ‘The Rejects: we are the weirdos mister’.
Performers on the night include aerialist, artist, circus performer and aspiring burlesque starlet, Fifi La Roux, and side show performer Grim Squeaker, who’s a veteran Irish cabaret artist.
Bubbly Gala is herself a talented performer and began preforming burlesque when she was 19 after years of admiring it from a distance.
She’s also experimented with other styles like horror and neo and has now built up enough confidence to start producing her own shows.
“I wanted to create a show for the weirdos,” she says. “Myself, I wasn’t exactly the most ‘normal’ or accepted for being different. But then again, it made me who I am today.”
Gala (24) was the youngster performer in the final of last year’s Miss Burlesque Ireland and qualified after winning the audience vote in the semi-final.
Risqué Burlesque striptease shows featuring provocatively dressed female cabaret artists first became popular in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
But despite its slightly dodgy past, today’s performers say modern Burlesque is a true art form, really good fun and fantastic for building confidence.
Gala’s upcoming Grand Social show will feature lots of Burlesque, but there’ll also be plenty of other wonderfully weird performances that defy normal classifications.
“I wanted to celebrate all the unique individuals I have been lucky enough to work with,” she says. “We have clowns, circus ‘freaks’ Burlesque dancers, snake charmers and a whole lot of weird!”
Other acts lined up for the show include fellow Miss Burlesque finalist, Miss Memphis Shell, whose passion for classic Burlesque and vintage glamour is given an edge by her lifelong love for all things undead and the macabre.
Host for the evening will be Lotta Lungs, who’s described as having a flare for musicals, but also a love for horror and Tim Burton movies.
Tickets for ‘The Rejects: we are the weirdos mister’ at the Grand Social from 7-11pm on Thursday, July 27, cost €10.70 from Eventbrite.ie.
