A LOCAL TD has denied spearheading a campaign to get a sold-out dance gig at Morton Stadium moved from the venue.
The MK presents Area 10 gig was due to take place on July 1 and thousands of tickets costing over €65 had been sold.
Cllr Andrew Keegan (PBP) claimed Dublin North West TD, Noel Rock (FG), was behind a ‘buzz kill’ campaign to cancel the gig and called for a protest outside his Santry office.
“This guy runs around the area trying to get elected by pandering to the older generation and not giving a damn about young people,” he said.
“I’m sick and tired of right wingers lording it over us. I am calling on young people and their parents and supporters to protest about this outside his office in Santry and certainly young people of voting age to get on to social media about the anti-youth behaviour of Noel Rock TD and the establishment parties.”
However, Deputy Rock said Cllr Keegan was jumping to conclusions without fully investigating the facts of the matter.
“Cllr Keegan frankly doesn’t have a clue what he’s talking about,” he told Northside People.
“The facts are that there was no consultation with local residents before tickets went on sale.
“Gardaí were made aware of the event a number of weeks ago after tickets had gone on sale and the event was already sold out. This highlighted a huge problem coming down the line.
“As a public representative, it is my duty to work to the best of my ability for my constituents and the majority of residents in the Santry area were concerned about such an event taking place.
“My office and I have faced a barrage of abuse online and through phone calls for somehow ‘spearheading’ a campaign to cancel the event.
“It is quite clear that the event is not cancelled, though its hosting by Morton Stadium has been cancelled.”
Organisers of the gig have confirmed the gig isn’t cancelled but will be relocated to an alternative venue.
“Full details on this new venue will be posted shortly on our Facebook page and emailed out to all attendees,” a statement said.
